AI-enabled flexibility orchestration

robotron*eFlex

Orchestrate batteries, flexible load and distributed generation in a market that keeps moving.

robotron*eFlex forecasts prices and load as ranges, models your whole portfolio, and keeps dispatch rules tuned as conditions change. Retailers, aggregators and asset owners use it to improve hedging performance, capture more arbitrage and dispatch with carbon in mind.

What is robotron*eFlex?

robotron*eFlex is software for orchestrating flexible energy assets in New Zealand's electricity market. From one platform it controls batteries, flexible load such as hot water cylinders and electric boilers, EV charging and distributed generation, using probabilistic forecasts and adaptive optimisation instead of fixed price thresholds.

It is built for energy retailers, aggregators and virtual power plant operators, battery owners, and commercial and industrial users who need flexibility to pay off against hedge positions, wholesale volatility and operational limits.

What challenges does it solve? Static optimisation has stopped paying

With 55 to 60% of generation hydro-based, more than 69,000 rooftop solar installations and solar capacity up more than 50% between 2023 and 2024, prices and household load no longer follow a predictable pattern.

Wholesale prices sit around $90–120/MWh most of the time, but have passed $500/MWh in supply-constrained periods and $1,500/MWh in extreme events. Forecast error and shifting volatility can cut storage profitability by up to half when optimisation is not predictive. • Fixed price thresholds drift out of alignment as wholesale volatility widens.
            • Time-of-use windows cannot follow renewable intermittency.
            • Hedge positions and realised load keep pulling apart as EVs and solar change behaviour.
            • Manual parameter tuning becomes the bottleneck as fleets grow.

                How it works

Four capabilities working from one model of your portfolio

Forecasting, simulation and optimisation share the same picture of your assets, your constraints and your hedge position.

                1. 01

                  Probabilistic forecast integration

Forecasts arrive as a range, not a single number. Probabilistic load, price and renewable forecasts inform every dispatch decision, so optimisation is hedge-aware and risk-adjusted.

                2. 02

                  Adaptive optimisation engine

Dispatch outcomes are evaluated around the clock and strategy parameters recalibrated across arbitrage, reserves and carbon constraints, always inside your operational guardrails.

                3. 03

                  Portfolio digital twin

Asset constraints, state-of-charge behaviour and market scenarios are modelled in a virtual copy of your portfolio, so a strategy is stress-tested before it dispatches anything real.

                4. 04

                  AI-assisted rule creation

Rules and portfolio clusters are proposed for you, with each suggested value beside the current one. Accept the set, take one value, or override it all. Nothing changes without a yes.

                AI you can audit

                  • Operator overrideAny suggested value can be overridden, per plant and per behaviour.
                  • Dispatch guardrailsState of charge, price bounds and override windows that optimisation cannot cross.
                  • Strategy transparencySuggested parameters always sit beside current ones, so it is clear what would change and why.
                  • Full auditabilityEvery recommendation, acceptance and override is recorded, inside compliance and risk parameters you define.

                    Who it's for

                    1. Energy retailers

Align flex dispatch with probabilistic load forecasts and your hedge position to reduce imbalance exposure and steady gross margin.

                      Discuss your portfolio

                    2. Aggregators and VPP operators

Grow a fleet without growing the operations team. Automated clustering and continuous tuning keep optimisation consistent as asset numbers climb.

                      Discuss your portfolio

                    3. BESS owners and operators

Co-optimise arbitrage, frequency response and instantaneous reserves, so a battery becomes an active volatility instrument, not a single-revenue asset.

                      Discuss your portfolio

                    4. Commercial and industrial

Bring thermal load, process plant and EV fleets into flex markets with the constraints and safeguards that keep core business running first.

                    Questions about robotron*eFlex

                    What is robotron*eFlex?

robotron*eFlex is Robotron New Zealand's software for orchestrating batteries, flexible load, EV charging and distributed generation. It combines probabilistic forecasting, portfolio modelling and adaptive optimisation so dispatch decisions respond to wholesale prices, load uncertainty and your hedge position.

Which assets and use cases does it cover?

Energy storage management, load shifting, peak shaving, arbitrage, renewable integration, EV smart charging, V2G and V2H, hot water cylinder management, electric boiler optimisation, virtual power plants, energy trading and fleet orchestration.

Can operators override what the AI suggests?

Yes. Any suggested value can be overridden per plant and per behaviour, and suggested parameters always sit beside the current ones. Dispatch guardrails such as state of charge and price bounds cannot be crossed by optimisation, and every recommendation, acceptance and override is recorded.

What is live today and what is still in development?

Phase 1, automated parameter configuration, is live with New Zealand clients. Asset-level intelligence, portfolio simulation and digital twin, bespoke C&I asset management and multi-device orchestration are in development.
